Identifying rectal carcinoma with distal submucosal spread

Abstract: Distal submucosal tumour spread is associated with poorly or undifferentiated tumours and advanced lymph node involvement. Preoperative identification of patients at risk of distal submucosal spread requiring more extensive distal clearance is possible.
