Identifying barriers to implementation of health promoting schools in Pakistan: The use of qualitative content analysis and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process

Abstract: Acknowledging government's failure to implement health promotion approach in Pakistani schools, and recognizing the need for research in this area, this study was initiated with the purpose of providing exploratory insights into the barriers that are hindering implementation of health promoting schools. Both qualitative and quantitative techniques were used. Qualitative study involved interviews and content analysis. Quantitative analysis used multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, called as Fuzzy AHP. … Show more

“…The conversation process is called defuzzification process. For various types of defuzzification methods are buried in the literatures, this study utilizes the centroid method of defuzzification for its wide acceptance [45]. The linguistic variables described by fuzzy numbers are denoted by membership functions [45], which are presented in Table 1 and Figure 1, separately.…”

“…Though Uganda is getting more urbanised (over 76% of the Ugandans live in rural area), the influence of culture (and tradition) is still so strong among indigenous communities in Uganda. Health promoters have to manage diversity; the patient, family and the community where they live [24]. The cultural values of the patient and family within the locations/contexts must be given attention [24].…”

“…Moreover, AHP is usually used to determine the weight by the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods [22]. From the view of system sciences, the objective weight of different level index of the assessment model was established based on AHP method [23][24][25]. To deal with the problem, the following steps of AHP are shown as follows.…”
