Identifying and Ranking Sources of SSR Based on the Concept of Subsynchronous Power

Abstract: This paper presents a measurement-based method for real-time determination of the wind farms or wind turbines that contribute most significantly to a subsynchronous resonance (SSR) event. The method is based on the concept of subsynchronous power (SSP). This paper has shown it is the SSP that drives the SSR. By monitoring the direction and amount of SSPs produced by different wind farms or turbines, the most critical wind farms or turbines can be identified and quantified. A dq0 transform based algorithm is de… Show more

“…Another support evidence is to view an oscillation phenomenon as the presence of non-stationary interharmonics in the system. The direction of interharmonic power has been proposed to detect SSR-contributing DFIGs [32] and to trace sources causing voltage flicker [33].…”

“…Existing literature on the SSO propagation generally concentrates on i) studying the propagation mechanism of SSO [14], ii) defining the concept of subsynchronous power [15][16][17][18], iii) identifying the influencing elements of SSO propagation [19] and iv) determining the propagation path of SSO [20]. Gong Y et al find that the oscillating current propagates along the weakly damped channel in the synchronous generator-based system [14].…”

“…Gong Y et al find that the oscillating current propagates along the weakly damped channel in the synchronous generator-based system [14]. The concept of subsynchronous power using conventional power theory based on the average value is proposed in [15]. The defined subsynchronous power is applied to the real-time determination of wind farms contributing to SSO.…”
