“…6). Interestingly, another Cw12 variant, Cw*1203, is composed of the a1 domain of Cw*12021/2 and 02 domain of Cw*0602 (22). This variant was identified in a blood donor from the Mandenka population of East Senegal (Table l), while performing a largescale sequencingioligotyping analysis of this population (23).…”

“…Another Cw*12 subtype was initially described by PCR-SSP as the "Cw*18-38" variant due to its association with B18 and B38 (11). It was assigned the Cw*1203 official denomination after nucleotide sequencing experiments by Cereb et al (12) and ourselves ( Figure 1). Cw*1203 is a common allele which contributes to a significant part of the HLA-C "blank" phenotype in Caucasoid and Negroid ethnic groups (2, 8,11).…”

“…Sixty two 10th workshop cell lines have previously been DNA typed by a variety of methods including two from our laboratory and reported in the literature (5,6,(20)(21)(22). Our results were compared with the published ones.…”

“…Allele designation for the cell lines (PF97387, MOU, PITOUT, OMW) that typed as Cw*1601 is more complicated. All four cell have been labeled as Cw*1601 by many laboratories including ours (5,6,21,22). PF97387 and PITOUT were defined as Cw*1601 in March 1994 (21) according to the then available EMBL sequence database in which Cw*1601 was the only Cw16 allele.…”
