“…To determine the rhMBL pI, 2D-PAGE and isoelectric focusing were performed. The result showed the presence of two isoforms of rhMBL, with pI in a range from 5.7 to 5.9, which is close to the pI reported for MBL purified from rat liver [50] (figure 2). Jensen et al (2007) observed, among those modifications, that the only detectable difference between the purified plasma-derived human MBL and the rhMBL was the content of hydroxyprolines (Hyp) (mostly) and glycosylated hydroxylysines (Hyl) (figure 3) [51].…”

“…The subunit molecular weights are different from Clq, acetylcholinesterase, and the core-specific lectin. Unlike the latter protein, CP4 contains asparagine-linked carbohydrate (Colley & Baenziger, 1987a). The functional role of the collagenous domain of SP-35 is not yet known.…”

“…138,139 These and other motifs are beyond the scope of this review, but certainly represent novel linkages and modifications, including Glcb1-3Fuca1-Ser/Thr in EGF modules, 140 Siaa2-3Galb1-4GlcNAcb1-3Fuca1-Ser/Thr in notch, 141 and Glca1-2Galb1-hydroxylysine in collagen 142 and the serum mannose binding lectin. 143,144 In addition to the well known phosphorylation of mannose to give mannose-6phosphate, other glycans may also be phosphorylated and sulfated, as seen in -GlcUAb1-3Gal(AE6-O-sulfate)-b1-3Gal(AE6-O-sulfate)b1-4Xyl and -GlcUA-Gal-Gal-Xyl-(2-O-phosphate)-of the linkage region of proteoglycans. 145,146 Other unusual structures, such as Glcb1-6(Galb1-3)GalNAca1-Ser/Thr and Glcb1-6(Glcb1-3)GalNAca1-Ser/Thr, 147 have been identified in Caenorhabditis elegans where they are abundant, and raise questions whether they might also occur in higher animals.…”
