Identification of the key differentially expressed genes and pathways involved in neutrophilia

Abstract: Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are the most important determinants in the acute inflammatory response. Pathologically increased numbers of PMNs in the circulation or specific tissues (or both) lead to neutrophilia. However, the genes expressed and pathways involved in neutrophilia have yet to be elucidated. By analysis of three public microarray datasets related to neutrophilia (GSE64457, GSE54644, and GSE94923) and evaluation by gene ontology, pathway enrichment, protein–protein interaction networks, an… Show more

“…RNA-seq is mainly applied to study transcriptomic differences caused by various treatments [ 22 ]. The overall analysis of transcription, translation and metabolism at the molecular level allowed the identification of key differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and provided new insights into the molecular mechanisms involved in target molecule production [ 23 ]. Zhu et al [ 24 ] used RNA-Seq to explore the effects of nitrogen sources and ICDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase) knockout on glycolate production in E. coli .…”

“…ASFV infection causes neutrophilia in pigs: a higher neutrophil count in the blood than the normal reference range typical during infections and inflammation [ 121 ]. We detected upregulated expression of colony-stimulating factor 3 receptor ( CSF3 ), also called the receptor for granulocyte colony-stimulating factor ( G-CSF ), that contributes to the proliferation and granulocyte differentiation of myeloid progenitor cells [ 122 ].…”

“…DGLUCY can be linked to asthma through (1) impact on E-cadherin expression (involved in to epithelial integrity in asthma), possibly through inhibition of ERK and P90RSK phosphorylation 134 , (2) its suppression by miRNA-199b (overexpressed during bacterial but not viral infections) 135 , (3) possibly related differential expression in neutrophilia 136 , (4) strong differential expression implied in seasonal remodeling of the immune system (reinforcing its role in immune system function and possibly regulation) 137 .…”
