Identification of Sulfur-Containing Chlorinated Paraffin Structural Analogues in Human Serum: Origination from Biotransformation or Bioaccumulation?

Yibin Sun,

et al.

Abstract: Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are manufactured and used in high quantities and have diverse structural analogues. It is generally recognized that sulfurcontaining structural analogues of CPs are mainly derived from sulfate-conjugated phase II metabolism. In this study, we non-targeted identified three classes of sulfur-containing CP structural analogues (CPs−S) in human serum, including 44 CP sulfates (CPs− SO 4 H/CPs−SO 4 H−OH), 14 chlorinated benzene sulfates (CBs−SO 4 H), and 19 CP sulfite esters (CPs−SO 3 /C… Show more

“…Semiquantitative concentrations of BCPs and BCOs in dust samples (median concentrations of 5.4 and 0.18 μg/g, respectively) are comparable to CPs, and 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than those in the atmosphere and sediments at some sites . More than 70 kinds of sulfur-containing chlorinated paraffins (S-CPs) and 399 oxygen-containing CPs (CPO x s, including 285 congeners of chlorinated fatty acid methyl esters, CFAMEs) were detected in serum samples of Chinese general population and the levels of ∑CPO x s were 202.2 ± 324.7 ng/mL with a detection frequency of 100%, which were comparable to the concentration of ∑MCCPs (142.8 ± 144.6 ng/mL). , …”

“…Structural analogues of chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are compounds that contain the chlorinated n -alkanes skeleton of CPs and other functional groups. Recently, some structural analogues of CPs at high levels were detected in the environment and general population. The atmospheric concentrations of unsaturated short, medium, and long chain chlorinated olefins (COs) were 0.01–0.27, 0.02–0.56, and 0.01–0.55 ng/m 3 in China . Over 700 brominated-chlorinated paraffin and brominated-chlorinated olefin congeners (BCPs and BCOs) were found in different matrices in Australia.…”
