Identification of SNPs in growth-related genes in Colombian creole cattle

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Colombian creole cattle have important adaptation traits related to heat tolerance and reproductive and productive efficiency. Romosinuano (ROMO) and Blanco Orejinegro (BON) are the most common breeds used by Colombian cattle breeders. Growth traits are of prime importance in these animals, which are mainly raised for beef production. Genes encoding growth hormone, growth hormone receptor, homeobox protein, insulin growth factor binding protein 3, leptin, and myostatin have been associated with physi… Show more

“…Genome sequence has enabled the identification of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and genetic markers for desirable traits (Zwane et al, 2019) such as productivity, disease resistance and reproductive maturation (Guppy et al, 2018). For instance, specific SNPs for growth performance and immunity traits have been identified and utilized for breeding programs assisted by genomic selection in Blanco Orejinegro cattle (Martínez et al, 2010;Martínez et al, 2016), chicken (Li et al, 2013;Xie et al, 2012) and pig (Geraci et al, 2019;Yang et al, 2019). Genomics has indeed contributed to the exponential growth of terrestrial animal production, yet it has not been fully exploited in aquaculture industry due to several challenges in obtaining whole genome sequences of marine organisms.…”

One of the polymorphism in bGHR gene were detected in exon 10 (Hadi et al, 2015;Martinez et al, 2016). The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the exon 10 of bGHR gene was detected in position g.3338A>G (transition mutation) and affecting the amino acid change from Serine to Glycine (Deepika & Salar, 2013;Martinez et al, 2016).…”
