Identification of seismic attributes for hydrocarbon prospecting of Akos field, Niger Delta, Nigeria

Abstract: In this study, we have extracted and analyzed four seismic attributes of Akos oil field to obtain more information about the structures, stratigraphy and hydrocarbon potential of the Akos field from available seismic and a suite of well logs data. Two lithology and reservoirs were delineated from the well logs. Two horizons and growth faults were identified in the seismic sections. For a comprehensive analysis of the structural and stratigraphic understanding of the reservoirs, four seismic attributes variance… Show more

“…This type of analyses involves the physical seismological characteristics of each component of the seismic event. Sand bodies distributed in different sedimentary microfacies have different seismic reflection characteristics, which are reflected by their seismic attributes, that is, amplitude, energy, continuity, and frequency (Emujakporue & Enyenihi, 2020; Pang et al., 2018). We interpreted the sedimentary features of the massive ‘bottom sandstone’ of K 1 q in light of seismic sedimentology theory and seismic attribute analyses (Berg, 1982; Bowen & Weimer, 2003; Li et al., 2014).…”

“…The variance edge attribute measures the similarity of seismic waveforms or adjacent traces in given lateral and vertical windows. Therefore, it can visualize the seismic amplitude discontinuity related to faulting or stratigraphy (Emujakporue and Enyenihi, 2020). The sweetness attribute was applied to both horizon slices and vertical seismic pro les to identify sweet spots zones that are hydrocarbon prone.…”
