Identification of QTLs for capsaicinoids, fruit quality, and plant architecture-related traits in an interspecific Capsicum RIL population

Abstract: Quantitative trait loci (QTL) analyses in pepper are common for horticultural, disease resistance, and fruit quality traits; although none of the studies to date have used sequence-based markers associated with genes. In this study we measured plant architectural, phenological, and fruit quality traits in a pepper mapping population consisting of 92 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between Capsicum frutescens acc. 2814-6 and C. annuum var. NuMexRNAKY. Phenotypic measurements were correlated to loc… Show more

“…As these are correlated traits, it was predicted that at least some of the markers should be common. Yarnes et al (2013) identified QTL on different linkage groups as those found in this study. For number of days to flowering, QTL were observed in group 6; for number of days to fruiting, QTL were detected in group 8.…”

“…The phenotypic variation ranged from 1.76-1.98 for FL and 1.09-1.87 for FD, totaling 5.72 and 4.72%, respectively. Yarnes et al (2013) also detected 2 QTL associated with pepper FD and 1 QTL associated with FL, all in linkage group 11. In studies carried out by Lu et al (2012), 3 QTL were identified in the same position for FL and FD in linkage groups 4, 5, and 10.…”

“…Dempsey (hereafter, Perennial and Dempsey) (Supplementary Tables 6-9 and Supplementary Note). We anchored scaffolds to the high-density genetic map (4,562 markers) and to the previously reported genetic map 17 . Overall, we anchored 86.0% of the assembly (2.63 Gb; 1,357 scaffolds) as 12 chromosome pseudomolecules and ordered them (75.6%; 1,048 scaffolds) on the basis of genetic distance ( Supplementary Fig.…”
