Identification of QTL underlying vitamin E contents in soybean seed among multiple environments

Abstract: Vitamin E (VE) in soybean seed has value for foods, medicines, cosmetics, and animal husbandry. Selection for higher VE contents in seeds along with agronomic traits was an important goal for many soybean breeders. In order to map the loci controlling the VE content, F5-derived F6 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) were advanced through single-seed-descent (SSD) to generate a population including 144 RILs. The population was derived from a cross between ‘OAC Bayfield’, a soybean cultivar with high VE content, and… Show more

“…None of these QTLs had major effects, but they were able to influence flowering time through interactions with other loci, an observation in accordance with those reported by Jannink (2007). Furthermore, for qFT-K, no QTL associated with flowering has been previously identified (Li et al 2010;Ha et al 2012).…”

“…In addition to γ-TMT, other genes involved in the tocochromanol pathway and a few additional loci have been identified as factors for natural tocochromanol variations in major crops using quantitative trait locus (QTL) studies and association analyses (Gilliland et al 2006;Sookwong et al 2009;Li et al 2010;Shutu et al 2012;Lipka et al 2013). Identifying such genetic variations in rice can increase our understanding of the genetic mechanisms controlling tocochromanol variations and provide valuable information that can be applied directly to breeding.…”

“…The importance of tocopherol for both producer and consumer organisms has led to survey for quantitative trait loci (QTL) determining VTE content 3,[12][13][14][15] . In tomato, we revealed the existence of four metabolic QTL (mQTL) affecting total tocopherol levels in fruits 9 .…”
