Identification of Prognostic Factors in 61 Patients With Posttransplantation Lymphoproliferative Disorders

Abstract: PS and the number of involved sites defined three risk groups in our population. The value of these prognostic factors needs to be confirmed in larger cohorts of patients treated in prospective multicenter studies.

“…Other prognostic factors for a better response found in retrospective analyses were a good performance status and detection of EBV in tumor tissue. 22 However, in our study, neither LDH nor other variables classically related with prognosis in immunocompetent patients, such as those included in the IPI or the EBV status, were of prognostic significance.…”

“…Several categories have been identified according to their clinical presentation, morphology, and molecular features (28,29). Most PTLD are associated with EBV, but EBV-negative cases also have been described and tend to occur later than EBV-positive ones (30). HIV-related NHL are mainly high-grade B cellrelated neoplasms.…”

“…In the present series, this low percentage of EBV-positive PTLD can be related to the high number of PTLD cases occurring later than 24 months after transplantation, as has previously been described. 29 BAFF expression was detected in 92% of the 51 DLBCL cases. This result could reflect ligand-receptor engagement as well as environmental-or cellular-secreted BAFF.…”
