Identification of potential cervical cancer serum biomarkers in Thai patients

Abstract: Cervical cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-associated mortality in females worldwide. Serum biomarkers are important tools for diagnosis, disease staging, monitoring treatment and detecting recurrence in different types of cancer. However, only a small number of established biomarkers have been used for clinical diagnosis of cervical cancer. Therefore, the identification of minimally invasive, sensitive and highly specific biomarkers for detection of cervical cancer may improve outcomes. In the… Show more

“…Multimerin1 ( MMRN1 ) is a di‐sulphide linked homo‐polymeric glycoprotein from EMILIN family. Altered expression of MMRN1 has been reported in hepatocellular carcinoma, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer 52,53 . MMRN1 also played an important risk factor in gastric cancer microenvironment 54 .…”

“…MMRN1s potential as a biomarker in certain cancers, including diagnosis of cancer stages, is a strong possibility (23)(24)(25)105). However, detail on MMRN1 protein interactions and involvement in signalling events is required to describe MMRN1 molecular mechanisms and if and how this correlates with its differential expression.…”

“…These functions, however, shall not be covered in the current article as these have already been reviewed (22). Instead, the focus will be on MMRN1's non-platelet related functions, including mmrn1 differential gene expression and its proposed use as a cancer biomarker (23)(24)(25). A bibliometric network analysis illustrates how the research on MMRN1's platelet-related…”

“…Western blots (immunoblots) that allow separating proteins electrophoretically prior to detection are irreplaceable in cervical cancer research but have low clinical utility [57] due to difficulties with large-scale automation. Despite recent developments, where capillary electrophoresis is used to separate and chemiluminescence to detect and quantify proteins in an automated setup, it is still considered a research tool [58].…”
