Identification of new resistance loci against wheat sharp eyespot through genome-wide association study

Abstract: IntroductionWheat sharp eyespot caused by Rhizoctonia cerealis is a serious pathogenic disease affecting plants. The effective strategy for controlling this disease is breeding resistant cultivar. However, to date, no wheat varieties are fully resistant to sharp eyespot, and only a few quantitative trait loci (QTLs) have been shown to be associated with sharp eyespot resistance.MethodsTo understand the genetic basis of this disease, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of sharp eyespot resistance in 262 vari… Show more

“…In China, sharp eyespots are widespread in nearly 20 provinces, especially in Jiangsu, Henan, Hebei, and other places [ 3 ]. Currently, the progress of breeding for resistance varieties against sharp eyespot of wheat is slow, and there are few varieties of wheat that are widely promoted for resistance to sharp eyespot [ 4 ]. Chemical control is the most commonly used method to prevent and control this disease [ 1 ].…”
