Identification of mega-environments and rice genotypes for general and specific adaptation to saline and alkaline stresses in India

Abstract: In the present study, a total of 53 promising salt-tolerant genotypes were tested across 18 salt-affected diverse locations for three years. An attempt was made to identify ideal test locations and mega-environments using GGE biplot analysis. The CSSRI sodic environment was the most discriminating location in individual years as well as over the years and could be used to screen out unstable and salt-sensitive genotypes. Genotypes CSR36, CSR-2K-219, and CSR-2K-262 were found ideal across years. Overall, Genoty… Show more

“…After the soybeans were disseminated northward, the early MGs 000-0 varieties were developed in the Northeast of China covering a wide range of MGs 000-III (Liu et al, 2017). Likewise, 127 soybean varieties from Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning were mainly classified as MG000-III, which was consistent with MGs distribution in various soybean ecoregions in China by Gai et al (Gai and Wang, 2001;Wu et al, 2012;Jia et al, 2014).…”

“…The mid-range values of R7 in 13 standard MGs were calculated, and the averages of mid-range values for two adjacent MGs were used as the threshold. The 173 soybeans were classified into different MGs (Jia et al, 2014).…”

“…Environment effect was high in case of grain yield and plant height but interaction effect was high for the expression of tiller number. Comparatively higher contribution of environment effect was observed in many previous studies 48 51 and especially under stress conditions 52 54 .…”

“…Understanding the causes and extent of G × E interaction is highly useful to frame breeding objectives, identifying ideal test locations, and formulating varietal release recommendations (Krishnamurthy et al 2017). It is also of paramount importance to evaluate the adaptability and stability of the genotypes.…”
