Identification of Key Genes and Pathways Associated with Preeclampsia by a WGCNA and an Evolutionary Approach

Abstract: Preeclampsia (PE) is the serious obstetric-related disease characterized by newly onset hypertension and causes damage to the kidneys, brain, liver, and more. To investigate genes with key roles in PE’s pathogenesis and their contributions, we used a microarray dataset of normotensive and PE patients and conducted a weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Cyan and magenta modules that are highly enriched with differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were revealed. By using the molecular complex dete… Show more

“…Gene expression profiling in five HCC patients from Japan showed an increased galectin-4 expression in HCC tissue in comparison to healthy tissue, both from non-HCC cirrhosis patients as well as HCC patients. 53 This expression was further found to be cell-density dependent in HuH-7 and HepG2 cell lines, an increased expression being observed in high cellular density conditions favouring cell-cell adhesion. Another study, also depicted an up-regulation of galectin-4 in 20 paired HCC and peritumor tissues/cell lines in Chinese population.…”

“…Furthermore, highly correlated gene sets (gene modules) obtained through clustering, which have similar functions, can be associated with sample traits by calculating correlation coefficients. Importantly, WGCNA allows for the simultaneous analysis of gene modules and multiple traits related to biological relevance, enabling the identification of biologically significant genes and establishing co-expression relationships among genes within modules and their associations with relevant traits (Wu C. et al, 2021;Kondoh et al, 2022;Petrosyan et al, 2023). Rao et al (Rao et al, 2019) and Hong et al (Hong et al, 2021) applied gene co-expression network analysis methods to explore genes and transcription factors related to the monolignol biosynthetic pathway in P. trichocarpa.…”

“…Previous studies have employed bioinformatics methodologies to investigate the crucial genes associated with preeclampsia 9,10 . However, a consensus regarding these hub genes has yet to be reached, and further investigation into the molecular pathways associated with these genes remains limited.…”
