Background Joint procurement of medicines is a way to improve access and justice in developing countries. The aim of this study is to determine local indicators for assessing the performance of joint procurement agencies and compare the indicators in those pharmacies which use centralized purchasing before and after this change. Methods This was a mixed method study. In the first qualitative phase, 3 expert panels were held including 20 national experts who were selected through purposeful sampling. Data was analyzed applying a five-stage framework analysis using MAXQDA. In the second quantitative phase, financial, supply and procurement, physical and functional indicators of two hospitals affiliated with joint procurement were assessed and the satisfactions of patients from the pharmacy performance were compared applying a valid questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS through independent test, Paired t-test and ANOVA. Results Results show that after settlement of joint procurement, the cost of transportation has increased by 54%, a part of the cost of overhead has increased by 30%, the cost of manpower has increased by 88.9% and cost of insurance of warehouses has increased by 71.85% in 2016 compared to 2015. In addition, the total costs of holding were 89.8% of selling revenue. In other words, the profit was about 10% of revenue in total. Moreover the average score of pharmacies under the Holding has been higher than similar ones in all aspects of satisfaction from the patients`points of view. Conclusion The one-year experience of deploying centralized purchasing to supply medicine has led to increased income and patient satisfaction. However, increase in staffing costs, longevity, overhead and warehouse costs have been significant that need appropriate monitoring and interventions.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological features of bus/minibus users’ road traffic injury mortalities during 2006-2017, in the East Azerbaijan province of Iran. Methods All 245 bus/minibus users’ mortalities, registered in the forensic medicine database, were analyzed by STATA 13 statistical software package. Results The majority of victims (mean age: 41.5±18.6 years) were men (70%), adults (79.18%), illiterate (22.4%) and self-employed (25.3%). Passersby and police played an almost null role in transporting victims since 2014. A decreasing trend of bus/minibus users’ fatalities was observed over the study time. Head-neck-face trauma was more common among those who died prior to hospitalization. Rollover was significantly prevalent among bus users and falling among minibus users. Lorries, vans, and trailers as crash counterpart vehicles caused 59% of deceases, excluding the cases when no other vehicle was engaged. Victims were more likely to die at the hospital when crashes happened in the city’s inner roads (OR: 4.17; 95%CI:1.7-9.9). The elderly were 2.78 times more likely to die at the hospital when compared to the other age groups (95%CI: 1.23-6.26). Conclusions To identify a target group for interventions on traffic-related knowledge, attitude and behaviors, male adults, illiterate and self-employed bus/minibus users could be of priority. Type vehicles involved in the crash should be considered as an important factor affect on crash fatalities. Further investigations are needed in this regard in the future.

Objectives: Financial pharmacy operations are integral in pharmacy management. It is necessary for strategic planning and aligns with Saudi Vision 2030. This theme aims to illustrate financial services in pharmacy operations as a new initiative in Saudi Arabia. Methods: Local and international accounting and finance organizations are driving this new project. It has been developed based on global business models, guidelines for pharmacy projects, and new guidelines for project operators. A project management expert designs this initiative. This effort will consist of several phases, from the initial stage through the planning, execution, monitoring, and control phases. Results: A pharmacy operation has a clear vision, mission, and financial goals. This service has many benefits, including increased profitability, effective financial management, and better patient care. In addition, a description of the risk management model ensures project continuity. We also discussed monitoring and controlling services. Finally, the analysis considers the transition to a production project up to the project's final phase. Conclusion: Pharmacy Operations Finance is a new initiative that should be part of the Saudi Vision 2030 Pharmacy Strategic Plan. Pharmacy finance requires a clear vision, guidelines, and longterm partnerships with financial institutions. In addition, financial aspects in pharmacy operations are critical to developing a proper pharmacist career plan focused on patient care, optimal profitability, and effective financial management.
