Identification of gut microbiota signatures in symptomatic dermographism

Abstract: Symptomatic dermographism (SD), the most common type of physical urticaria, refers to the urticaria response to different kinds of physical stimulation, with a prevalence of 2-5%. 1,2 It is characterized by strip-shaped wheals at the scratching and friction sites, accompanied by local itching or burning sensation. 1,3 The average duration of SD is ranged from 5 to 7 years. It can seriously affect the quality of life of patients, leading to problems such as sleep disorder, chronic fatigue and even inability to … Show more

“…The role of gut microbiota in urticaria has been investigated, and previous studies showed characteristics of gut microbiota in patients with CSU or SD 29,30 . A study from our group detected microbial diversity in fecal samples from 22 SD patients by 16SrDNA sequencing.…”

We compared it with those from ageand gender-matched healthy controls and found a significant difference in the microbial diversity between the two groups.…”

“…This finding is consistent with the results reported in other immune system-associated skin diseases (Symptomatic dermographism, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis). 21,[24][25][26] However, another study by Zhang et al showed a reduction in the abundance of Megamonas and Dialister in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) compared to healthy individuals. 27 In a case study by Huang et al on the treatment of patients with functional constipation and accompanying AD using FMT, it was found that Ruminococcus was enriched in the patient before FMT, while Bacteroides, Alistipes, Bilophila, and other bacteria related to bile metabolism increased after FMT.…”
