Identification of beryllium hydride isotopomer lines in sunspot umbral spectra

Abstract: A high resolution spectrum of FTS sunspot umbra of NSO/Kitt Peak was used to conduct a search for the molecular absorption lines due to BeH, BeD and BeT isotopomers. Analysis led to estimates of identification of the molecular lines of bands A -X (0,0), (1,1) and (2,2) for BeH, A -X (0,0), (1,1), (2,2) and (3,3) for BeD and of A -X (0,0), (1,1) and (2,2) for BeT. Among the identified lines, those which are well resolved were selected for measurements to calculate equivalent widths. The values of effective rota… Show more

“…BeH: Darby-Lewis et al [138] have recently developed a new model for beryllium monohydride, which both improves (marginally) on the earlier Yadin line list [51] and, more significantly, includes a treatment of the A 2 Π-X 2 Σ + band. This band has been observed in sunspot [139], but the motivation for extending the line list was actually fusion plasmas where the use of Be walls has led to the observation of A-X emissions in the plasma [140]. Darby-Lewis et al demonstrate that their new line list gives excellent reproduction of emission spectra of both BeH and BeD, as well as predictions for the spectrum of BeT, which is important for fusion studies.…”

“…A number of diatomic molecules for which ExoMol provides extensive hot line lists have been detected in sunspots. These include SiO [50] , SiH [51] , SH [52] , BeH [53] , VO [54] , as well as MgH, MgO, TiO, C 2 and CaH which have all long been observed in sunspots [55] . In addition the spectrum of water is well-known in sunspots [56][57][58][59][60] ; studies of water spectra in sunspots should be aided by the new POKAZATEL water line list [61] which is designed for studies at temperatures above 30 0 0 K such as those encountered in solar umbra and penumbra.…”

“…BeH is one of the simplest heteronuclear diatomic molecules, and hence it is a strong contender for being observed in contexts such as exoplanetary atmospheres, cool stars and the interstellar medium. However, there are only very few astrophysical records of BeH, for example, a detection of A 2 Σ + → X 2 Σ + emission lines of BeH in the sunspot umbra spectra by Wöhl () and Shanmugavel et al ().…”
