Identification of berberine as a potential therapeutic strategy for kidney clear cell carcinoma and COVID-19 based on analysis of large-scale datasets

Abstract: BackgroundRegarding the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID)-19 pandemic, kidney clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) has acquired a higher infection probability and may induce fatal complications and death following COVID-19 infection. However, effective treatment strategies remain unavailable. Berberine exhibits significant antiviral and antitumour effects. Thus, this study aimed to provide a promising and reliable therapeutic strategy for clinical decision-making by exploring the therapeutic mechanism of berberin… Show more

“…Because of the strong antiviral effects of berberine against a wide range of viruses, some researchers have decided to test this alkaloid against the newly emerging virus SARS-CoV-2. In recent years, several review/research/trial studies have been published on the capabilities of berberine in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 and the treatment of coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19); , here we will have a brief overview of the results of some of the studies. In an in vitro study conducted by Varghese et al, the antiviral activity of berberine against SARS-CoV-2 was assessed using Vero E6 and nasal epithelial cells.…”
