“…Mutations affecting this region were demonstrated to dramatically increase the secretion of the E rns protein from infected cells (Tews and Meyers, 2007;Burrack et al, 2012). Conserved changes in the E2 and E rns coding regions have also been reported in BVDV-1b isolates obtained from alpacas and were shown to increase the ability of these viruses to infect alpaca cells (Neill et al, 2015). It is possible that the amino acid changes detected in this study may have optimized the ability of these viral isolates to infect and establish persistent infection in swine.…”

“…Host-specific amino acid changes in the E2 coding region were described during serial infection of pregnant cattle and sheep ( Paton et al, 1997 ). Conserved amino acid changes in the E2 and E rns coding regions were also reported in BVDV-1b isolates from alpacas ( Neill et al, 2015 ). Analogously, most conserved changes detected in ovine isolates in this study occurred in the same coding regions of the BVDV genome.…”

“…We decided to introduce this event to prove that the results of the tests must be treated with consideration; comparison of the results of the different methods and visual re-evaluation of the graphs are always necessary, as it was suggested previously (Leal et al, 2012). The major parent (Neill et al, 2015) was demonstrated in the USA, the closest minor parent in the UK. Since close relatives of the real parents were not sequenced in this case, the P value is relatively low.…”
