Identification of altered MicroRNA expression patterns in synovial sarcoma

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding small RNAs that function as an endogenous regulator of gene expression. Their dysregulation has been implicated in the development of several cancers. However, the status of miRNA in soft tissue sarcomas has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the global miRNA expression in synovial sarcoma and compared the results to those in another translocation-associated sarcoma, the Ewing family of tumors, and in normal skeletal muscle. The 3D-Gene miRNA microarray p… Show more

“…The expression of miR-125a-3p is reportedly down-regulated in non-small cell lung cancer (19). In contrast, it is up-regulated in synovial sarcoma (20), and overexpression under hypoxic conditions in retinoblastoma has also been observed (21). miR-125a-5p, the partner of miR-125a-3p, is down-regulated in breast cancer (22)(23)(24), ovarian cancer (25), lung cancer (26), and medulloblastoma (27), indicating its tumor suppressive effect in human cancers.…”

“…Expression profiles of miRNA were analyzed using a 3D-Gene miRNA microarray platform (version 14.0, Toray, Kamakura, Japan) as described previously. 15 More than 900 antisense probes were printed in duplicate spots on the miRNA microchip The annotation and oligonucleotide sequences of the probes conformed to the miRBase miRNA database version 14.0 (http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/ sequences/). The data were assessed using unsupervised hierarchical clustering.…”

“…The early diagnosis of GC has increased because of the rapid development of several diagnostic techniques, such as chromo endoscopy and random biopsies, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and some conventional biomarkers; however, extremely poor survival rates still remain [5,6]. Although chromo endoscopy and random biopsies are considered to be reliable and credible methods for diagnosis, their applications are limited due to the examination's cost and invasive and unpleasant nature and random biopsy's potential for sampling errors [7].…”
