Abstract: Pheromones play a pivotal role in coordinating collective activities. Recent research has demonstrated that workers of the Japanese subterranean termite, Reticulitermes speratus, secrete an aggregation pheromone that induces prolonged aggregation of nestmate workers, facilitating efficient dead-wood digestion and colony expansion.
