“…These intelectins include the grass carp intelectin, the rainbow trout intelectin, zINTL1, zINTL2, hINTL1, hINTL2, mINTL1, and mINTL2. Among which, zINTL1, hINTL1, the grass carp intelectin, and the rainbow trout intelectin are also highly expressed in several other tissues besides the gut [3,6,25,31]. However, as descried previously, their expressions in other tissues are highly different although they are all highly expressed in gut.…”

“…Another liver predominant intelectin described to date is the channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) intelectin 2 [23]. Besides, some other fish intelectins were also found to be expressed in liver [23][24][25], although not in a predominant level. Different from fish intelectins, all human, mouse, and frog intelectins reported to date were not expressed in liver.…”

“…VHSV can also be purified using the plant lectin concanavalin-A, which primarily recognizes mannose groups (Perez et al 1998) but also binds agarose (Bernhard & Avrameas 1971), a monosaccharide derivative of glucose. Rainbow trout intelectin, by contrast, is known to bind mannose and N-acetyl-glucosamine (Russell et al 2008b). Previous work with numerous animal and plant lectins has shown that galactose-and galactosamine-specific lectins cannot aggregate several isolates of VHSV genotype 1 while another VHSV isolate was poorly bound by concavalin-A (Bernard et al 1985) suggesting that surface carbohydrate is highly strain specific and may influence the ability of the innate immune system to recognise different isolates.…”

“…Blots were developed with ECL-Plus Western Blotting Detection kit (GE Healthcare Biosciences) and were visualized on the Typhoon 9410 Imaging System (GE Healthcare Biosciences). Rainbow trout intelectin was identified in an identical fashion except for the use of polyclonal rabbit anti-rainbow trout intelectin antibody (Russell et al 2008b(Russell et al , 2009 Russell et al (2008a). Whole rainbow trout plasma was used as a control for column fractions.…”

“…The purported role of intelectins is innate stimulation and opsonisation for phagocytic enhancement (Tsuji et al, 2001, Russell et al, 2008. It has been proposed from zebrafish (D. rerio) genomic analysis that intelectins may evolutionarily belong to four separate clades in mammal, frog, fish, and lancet.…”
