Identification and characterization of the murine FK506 binding protein (FKBP) 12.6 gene

Abstract: Mouse strains congenic for individual quantitative trait loci (QTLs) conferring hypnotic sensitivity to ethanol were constructed by backcrossing genotypically selected ILS x ISS N2 individuals to either inbred Long Sleep (ILS) or inbred Short Sleep (ISS) mice. We used a novel "speed congenic" approach in which N2 mice were genotyped for markers flanking each of the five originally identified QTLs. Genotypic selection for ISS regions at four of the five QTLs, and for ILS/ISS at the fifth QTL, allowed rapid fixa… Show more

“…RyR2 is highly distributed throughout the brain, including amygdala [2]. Calstabin2 is also abundantly expressed in the brain [12], and is detected in the amygdala in our present experiment. So far, whether calsta-bin2 could regulate fear memory in the lateral amygdala (LA) was not yet known, and we attempted to address this issue in the present study.…”

“…Zinc-finger gene ZNF699 (chromosome 19p13.2) is related to Drosophila gene “hang”, which is associated with increased alcohol tolerance (Scholz et al, 2005) and to QTLs involved in alcohol sedation in mice (e.g., Bennett and Johnson, 1998; Ehringer et al, 2002; Markel et al, 1997; Riley et al, 2006). In humans, several gene variants (e.g., rs7254880) might relate to alcohol dependence (Riley et al, 2006).…”
