Identification and characterization of a new iridoid compound from two-phase Chemlali olive pomace

Abstract: From ethyl acetate fraction of olive pomace, solid residue from olive oil extraction, a new compound was isolated and purified through solid-phase extraction using silica Cartridge column chromatography. The structure of the new compound was established as a deoxyloganic acid lauryl ester by spectroscopic data including one-and two-dimensional NMR, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, infrared analysis and UV spectra. The antioxidant activity of the purified compound was evaluated by measuring the radica… Show more

“…The solvent gradient started with 20% B and increased to 50% in 30 min, followed by an isocratic plateau for 5 min. Finally, solvent B decreased to 20% until the end of running time (Rigane and others 2011; 2012). The injection volume was 20 μL.…”

“…The contents of these compounds would result from the hydrolysis of their glucosidic and conjugated forms. Indeed, there are many sources of simple phenols in olive, such as hydroxytyrosol‐4‐β‐D‐glucoside, nuzhenide, oleuroside, verbascoside, demethyloleuropein, and oleuropein as the major component and others . HPLC quantitative analysis revealed an increase in the 3,4‐DHPEA and 3.4‐DHPEA species content with the increasing of ultrasound processing time on Tunisian olive paste cultivars (samples with pits).…”

“…A great amount of residues are generated as a result of agro-industrial activities and biomass valorization has become imperative [1][2][3]. One of the most abundant one is olive pomace which is a by-product of olive oil production process and a very important biomass source for the Mediterranean countries.…”
