Identification and characterisation of osteoarthritis patients with inflammation derived tissue turnover

Abstract: A bigger proportion of patients were elevated in CRPM compared to hsCRP, indicating MMP-derived inflammation as a component of OA. Moreover, the levels of MMP-degraded collagens differed between the subgroups segregated by inflammation, indicating distinctively different subpopulation selected by inflammation.

“…It is possible that the high levels of C1M, C4M, and VICM in the blood are results of a systemic effect where subjects with a general increased remodeling of the ECM and IF have a higher likelihood of developing cancer. Furthermore, all markers have been found elevated in a number of diseases characterized by ECM remodeling and tissue inflammation and are, therefore, not specific to cancer (7)(8)(9)(36)(37)(38)(39). Finally, it needs to be elucidated if the results of this study can be applied to populations of other ages and ethnic backgrounds and if the biomarkers are more useful for certain types of solid cancer.…”

“…Unfortunately, at present, many of these technologies are investigated independently, and consequently, the statistical benefit of combining serologic, imaging, and genomic biomarkers and clinical data may be overlooked. A recently proposed solution for PHC in osteoarthritis (52,53) may be such a combination of modalities. To successfully build upon and validate such emerging combinations of biomarkers (54) will require increased collaboration across research groups and consortiums.…”

“…Osteoarthrosis has no definitive cure [10][11][12], however, some treatments are recommended [3,9,13]. One of the non-invasive treatments for knee osteoarthritis is application of laser power.…”

“…One of the non-invasive treatments for knee osteoarthritis is application of laser power. Given the inflammatory nature of osteoarthritis, laser therapy is believed to be effective by reducing inflammation [9,11,14]. It also promotes fibroblasts, collagen synthesis, cell oxygen recovery, and bone remodeling [7,12].…”
