Identification and behavior of the precipitating BLV antibodies in sera of leukotic cattle

Abstract: Precipitating bovine leukemia virus antibodies isolated from bovine leukemic sera by ion-exchange chromatography, gel filtration and affinity chromatography were identified as immunoglobulins of the IgG1 subclass and IgA class. They proved to be different with regard to molecular size and electrical charge. Immunoglobulins IgG2 and IgM as well as low-molecular components ranging in the microglobulin regions (less than 4S) failed to precipitate BLV antigens. Individual bovine leukemic sera showed differing prec… Show more

“…The reported heterogeneous molecular sizes of the BLV-precipitating antibodies (5) were confirmed by these studies. Further work will be necessary to study the occurrence of 4 S antibodies reacting with gp 60 in young cattle.…”

“…A mixture of BLV antigens, antigens gp60 (previously designated gp69) and p24, were separated from the clarified supernatant from BLV-infected fetal lamb kidney cells (5). Sucrose density gradient centrifugation and disruption of the BLV particles by Triton X-100 gave a mixture of BLV antigens in the supernatant following ultracentrifugation.…”

“…Since AGID using BLV gp-51 antigen measures IgG exclusively (Matthaeus et al . , 1978) , decay of colostral BLV antibodies is essentially the decay of IgG-, • The half-life of IgG, in the bovine may vary from 18 to 22.7 days (Brar et al .…”
