Identification and Antibiogram Studies of Pathogenic Bacteria Isolated From Drinking Water (Unpackaged) In Chittagong City, Bangladesh

Abstract: Drinking water (unpackaged) samples were collected from twenty roadside shops of different locations in Chittagong metropolitan area, where physicochemical parameters (pH, TDS, temperature) were not exceeded WHO prescribed range in most cases. TVC, TCC, TFCC, TSC, Salmonella spp. and Vibrio spp. were found  contaminated as 85%, 70%, 50%, 20%, 30% and 75%, respectively. All the bacterial isolates (n=43) were found positive for 16S rDNA gene, while 12 isolates were coliform positive identified by lacZ gene ampli… Show more

“…en, gram stain methods were used to differentiate bacterial groups. After confirmation analysis of Klebsiella pneumonia (Kpn) by subculture method, a variety of standard biochemical tests were conducted (Voges Proskauer, indole, urease tests, TSI [triple sugar iron], motility, citrate, and methyl red) [14][15][16].…”

“…Gram staining was done for bacterial group differentiation. Once the presence of KPN in clinical samples were confirmed, a number of conventional biochemical tests were performed [Indole, Methyl red, Voges Proskauer, Citrate, TSI (triple sugar Iron, Motility and Urease tests)] using subcultures for of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates [34][35][36].…”
