Identification and analysis of optimal method parameters of the V-block waviness measurements

Abstract: Abstract. At the Kielce University of Technology, a new method of waviness measurement of cylindrical surfaces has been developed. The article deals with the research conducted to find the optimal V-block method parameters that can be used in a measuring device applied to waviness measurement of cylindrical surfaces. In order to keep high measuring accuracy of V-block method, all detectability coefficients which are function of V-block method parameters should not be negative. For this purpose computations wer… Show more

“…Each of the three bands has different supposed defects. For example, a high RMS value in the low band may indicate, for example, a difference in the diameter of the balls or deviations of the roundness of the rings, in the medium band about ball damage or raceway wave errors, in the high band with too high roughness of the ball or raceway surface, or contamination [15]. Increasing the effective value during bearing operation indicates an increase in the amount of damage.…”

“…The analysis of the quality of final product may include the assessment of the dimensional and shape accuracy and the assessment of the surface texture, for example, multiscale surface characterization. [22][23][24][25] The novelty of the presented tests results lies primarily in a comprehensive approach regarding dimensional and shape analysis and the assessment of the surface layer quality of models manufactured with conventional (casting) and unconventional technologies (3D printing), as well as their comparative analysis. In addition, the article examines both modern casting materials and liquid polymer resins currently used in 3D printing (PJM, "PolyJet Matrix"-one of the most accurate additive manufacturing technologies), which are an alternative to cast materials, which also constitute an element of comparison and novelty.…”

“…These parameters are extremely important in the case of cylindrical workpieces with a rotary or reciprocating motion. Excessive values of roughness and waviness deviations may cause excessive vibrations and noise of mechanisms [9,16]. This has a significant impact on the performance parameters of the finished devices, which is an example of operational heredity.…”
