“…A similar result was found in different states of Brasil. 11,12,13 In conclusion, this study demonstrated the high prevalence of onychomycosis among garbage collectors what could be best evaluated for health public departments. The mains agents causing onychomycosis in this population was T. rubrum, Candida spp and T. beigelii.…”

“…In contrast, in this study yeasts of the Candida genus were the most common etiological agents, for both sexes and affected regions. Among the studies that have collected similar data, one descriptive study was conducted in São Paulo [7,14,16], in the wich, proteomic analysis was applied to isolated and purified yeast samples and 100% were found to be positive for Candida sp., C. albicans is commonly found as a causative agent of onychomycosis, having been observed in one study as the main species among yeasts [14]. In our study, the most prevalent species was C. parapsilosis, corroborating the findings of Lone et al [7] We also identified C. tropicalis and C. orthopsilosis, both with frequency greater than C. albicans, which was identified in three samples.…”

“…The dermatophytes isolated in this study were all of the species T. mentagrophytes, different than in some other studies, which have found T. rubrum as most common [6,8,15]. In Brazil, surveys conducted in the states of Rio de Janeiro (2004) and Goiás (2005), city of Recife (2009) and city of São José do Ribeirão Preto (2015) presented the same pattern of causative agents of onychomycosis, while one study, in the city of São Paulo, found T. rubrum to be the main causative agent [7,[14][15][16][17][18]. Each species responsible for onychomycosis produces specific lesions on the nail plate.…”
