ICI Reduction in OFDM Systems Using Phase Modified Sinc Pulse

Abstract: This paper is focused on the problem of reducing the intercarrier-interference (ICI) power in the transmission over Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Systems (OFDM) using pulse shaping methods. A new pulse was proposed here and it was investigated in terms of ICI interference. It appears to be suitable for transmission in OFDM systems with carrier frequency offset. The results obtained by calculations show that the performance improvements are significant for reducing average intercarrier-interference… Show more

“…In general, we can conclude that the NW function outperforms the rest of the pulses in terms of ICI and SIR power because its frequency response decays faster than the other pulses, as depicted in Fig. 8 [20,21,24,30]. It can be seen in Fig.…”

“…A pulse with a modified phase of the sinc function, known as phasemodified sinc power (PMSP) pulse [22], was proposed to further minimize the side lobes with a broader main lobe by enabling the system to perform even better in reducing ICI power and BER than ISP. However, the side lobes of ISP and PMSP pulses are not sufficiently small to provide highly minimized ICI power at low amplitude a. SP, ISP, and PMSP pulses are only defined in the frequency domain.…”
