Wireless sensor networks have strict constrains in size, weight and energy. The conflict of long lifetime and strict energy constrain brings a natural integration of energy harvesting into wireless sensor networks. A modified low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol has been proposed to increase the network life time. Modified LEACH is divided into two main phases at the first setup phase and at the second steady state phase. Setup phase has been modified such that cluster head (CH) selection will be selected only from advanced nodes. Results showed significant improvement in WSN overall lifetime. Simulations show number of dead nodes vs rounds. Comparison between pure LEACH and modified one showed significant improvement in lifetime, also comparison between modified LEACH and multi-path multi-hop energy efficient routing protocol shows significant improvement in performance.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are communication infrastructures containing a large number of spatially distributed nodes equipped with micro-sensors. These small devices are used to sense data from a specific region and to collaborate in order to collect and process them. Data are then transmitted to a base station. Although WSNs have existed for several decades, they are one of the key components of Internet of Things (IoT)-based products and services [1]. Indeed, they play a significant role in various future IoT application scenarios such as health care [2], environmental monitoring [3] and smart cities [4]. Comparing sensor networks to ad-hoc networks, the number of sensor nodes in a sensor network can be several orders of magnitude higher than the nodes in an ad-hoc network. <span lang="EN-US">The development and miniaturization of CMOS (microphones and cameras) in the last years have allowed the creation of WMSN (Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network). Therefore, transferring multimedia content through the network has become an important field of research. It transmits the recorded multimedia data wirelessly from a node to another to reach the Sink (base station). Thus, routing protocols make a big contribution in this process, because they participate in optimizing the node's resource usage. Since Leach protocol was designed only to minimize energy consumption of the network .The goal of this paper is to compare our protocol in tnansfering images with other Leach protocol descendants .By using the application layer, we applied the jpeg compression using the frequency domain on images before sending them to the network.In this paper ,readers will find statistics concerning the lifetime of the network , the energy consumption and most importantly statistics about received images .Also, we used Castalia framework to simulate real conditions of transmission .simulation results proved the efficiency of our protocol by prolonging the lifetime of the network and transmitting more images with better quality compared to other protocols.</span>
