Icdas Ii Criteria (International Caries Detection and Assessment System)

Abstract: The International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) is a clinical scoring system which allows detection and assessment of caries activity. ICDAS was developed for use in clinical research, clinical practice and for epidemiological purposes. A recent review of caries detection criteria systems found that there were inconsistencies among the research criteria for caries measuring systems. There is a need to an uniform system which allows comparison of data collected in different researches. ICDAS al… Show more

“…This condition causes the destruction of dentine when the dynamic process of demineralization and constant remineralization is altered by the excess production of acids, in combination with other virulence factors of cariogenic microorganisms. 1,2,3 The first visual manifestation of this disease is an opacity or discoloration of the enamel that, if left untreated, produces cavities and affects other dental tissues. 4 Untreated caries can make eating and sleeping difficult, have an impact on children's growth, and is the main cause of school and work absenteeism.…”

“…Considering that black stains are local occurrences, present study has favored tooth-based evaluation of the caries experience. The International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) is a tooth-specific clinical scoring system which determines and codes the activity of lesion [21]. ICDAS is being used for epidemiological analysis, public health research, clinical research, clinical practice and dental education to diagnose the caries status and gives clinicians a treatment protocol [22].…”

“…The first digit is related to the restoration of teeth that ranges from 0 to 9. The second digit ranges from 0 to 6, used for coding the caries status of teeth from sound enamel to extensive distinct cavity with visible dentin [21]. Plaque removal and Air drying are necessary in the current ICDAS II system [23].…”
