Iberis amara Extract Induces Intracellular Formation of Reactive Oxygen Species and Inhibits Colon Cancer

Abstract: Massively increasing global incidences of colorectal cancer require efficient treatment and prevention strategies. Here, we report unexpected anticancerogenic effects of hydroethanolic Iberis amara extract (IAE), which is known as a widely used phytomedical product for treating gastrointestinal complaints. IAE significantly inhibited the proliferation of HT-29 and T84 colon carcinoma cells with an inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 6 and 9 μg/ml, respectively, and further generated inhibitory effects in PC-3 p… Show more

“…K562 and U937 were treated with increasing doses of GC for 24 h, and washed with HBSS after harvesting. The cells were stained with 5 μM CellROX TM Green Reagent (Invitrogen, MA, United States) in HBSS for 30 min at 37°C, washed twice and analyzed by flow cytometry (Ex: 488, Em: 530/30) to quantify the levels of ROS ( Weidner et al, 2016 ).…”

“…B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells were treated with curcumin and incubated for 24 h. After harvesting, the cells were washed with HBSS and stained with CellROXTM Green Reagent (Invitrogen, MA, United States). Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) level was quantified using flow cytometry (36).…”

“…K562 and U937 were treated with varying doses of greensporone A for 24 h. At the end of 24 h cells were washed, stained, and analyzed as described earlier by flow cytometry (Ex, 488; Em, 530/30) [23].…”
