Iatrogenic implantation of soft tissue sarcoma at skin graft donor site: Delayed manifestation of an avoidable complication

Abstract: be explained by varying levels of implementation of Indian tobacco control act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act), differential stake holder involvement and involvement of tobacco control agencies and political commitment across different states. Thus, there is a need of in-depth study of the above mentioned factors across two categories of states (declining and increasing trend) to enumerate the key areas of good practices so that it can be replicated in states across the country.

“…Additionally, Duek et al have described a case of iatrogenic seeding of osteosarcoma in a tracheotomy site 11. Pai et al described a case of iatrogenic implantation of high grade spindle cell sarcoma to the left thigh that occurred 8 years after initial surgery 12. Of note, there are infrequent reports of head and neck primary cancers with isolated graft/flap donor site metastasis or percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tumour implantation 13–16.…”

“…It has the advantages of ease of elevation, ease of positioning, and vascular reliability [10]. Because we had incorporated cases of malignancy in our study, we did not want to risk an iatrogenic implantation of soft tissue sarcoma [11]. To the best of our knowledge, the presented data constitute the largest series on outcome of anterolateral flap used to reconstruct different soft tissue defects in bone tumors and soft tissue tumors.…”

“…If there is a history of bone harvesting surgery, it is mandatory to clinically examine that area and do a screening plain radiograph to rule out disease due to "implantation seeding". 8…”
