To achieve simultaneous, worldwide high quality assurance and other global production developments, today's task is to maintain high reliability in production facilities and operations. In response to the increasing expansion of overseas plants, it is necessary to improve and maintain highly accurate production equipment and operations through the development of intelligence operators. The authors have clarified Advanced TPS as a global production technology and management model designed to realize high quality assurance in global production. Manufacturing throughput (Throughput) is oriented toward the reduction of time required by the manufacturing process, so that the profitability can be increased. Therefore, the authors have recognized the operational availability a key indicator in order to evaluate the throughput. This paper will introduce a new operational availability model to identify 1) the development of throughput to link the impact from one step to following step and 2) the contribution of each factors and each step for manufacturing process to pinpoint the bottleneck of the throughput. With improvement to these bottlenecks, the business will be successful while minimizing cost. The effectiveness of this system has been verified at the Toyota USA.

This article proposes that video-based information network (VIN) tools as a type of social software are a form of infrastructure that promotes the creation of new knowledge that transcends space and time in business activities. The first of two new insights discussed in the article concerns the effects of diverse communication and collaboration provided by VIN tools. Real-time communication and collaboration enabled by VIN tools, which combine and process images, sound, and data, result in creating particular modes of use of VIN tools specific to the company using them. The second insight is the formation of new business networks and the facilitation of knowledge creation activities through the use of VIN tools. The article considers four elements of information and communications technology (ICT) organizational capability that promote knowledge creation activities through these particular modes of use of VIN tools: ICT application capability, creative dialogue capability, context architect capability, and boundary consolidation capability. It also illustrates that the dynamic relationship of these four elements promotes the formation of business networks and the formation, maintenance, and development of knowledge communities and leads to new knowledge creation.

An advanced production management principle, the New Japan Production Model to further advance TPS (Toyota Production System) called the Advanced TPS is proposed, which involves the systematization of Japanese production management methodology for strategic production. The New Japan Production Model-a new management technology principle, proposed and verified in previous studies-was developed through establishing a Global Production Technology and Management Model based on New JIT utilizing three core technologies (TMS, TDS, and TPS), which relates to hardware systems, and Science TQM, which relates to software systems. Formation of the model through utilization of these core technologies signifies the high linkage of business processes that enables a speedy production cycle by using "Intelligent Quality Control System, TPS-QAS", "Highly Reliable Production System, V-MICS", "Renovating Work Environment, TPS-IWQM" and "Bringing up Intelligent Operators, V-IOS". Effectiveness of the proposed New Japan Production Model was verified at Toyota Motor Corporation.
