Retracted: Effective Dose of Salmon GnRHa for Induction of Ovulation in Channel Catfish

Abstract: The present study was conducted to determine the minimum effective dose of salmon gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog (sGnRHa) to stimulate ovulation in Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus. Four doses of sGnRHa-0, 10, 15, and 25 µg/kg body weight (BW)-were compared with the commonly used dose of 100 µg/kg BW of mammalian luteinizing hormone releasing hormone analog (mLHRHa) to induce spawning in Channel Catfish. Hormone-induced catfish yielded significantly higher levels of plasma estradiol and ovulation suc… Show more

“…In most cases, assisted reproductive technologies, i.e., using hormonal therapy to stimulate gametogenesis and induce ovulation, can be an effective way to control reproduction in captive fishes (Berlinsky et al, 1996;Berlinsky et al, 2005;Garber et al, 2009;Mylonas et al, 2017). Hormonal manipulations have contributed significantly to the expansion and diversification of the aquaculture industry as a management tool to enhance the efficiency of gamete production and hatchery operations (Berlinsky et al, 1996;Chatakondi et al, 2011;Chatakondi, 2017). In the last decade, there has been growing interest in the development of protocols for captive gamete production in rheophilic cyprinid fish using exogenous hormonal agents (Krejszeff et al, 2008;Krejszeff et al, 2009;Zadmajid, 2016).…”

“…() noted a high ovulation rate when GnRHa was used to induce spawning in Robust Redhorse Moxostoma robustum , and the effective use of GnRHa in other fish species (Hill et al. ; Culpepper and Allen ; Chatakondi ) suggests it could be useful in many catostomid species as well, although the ability to induce spawning using GnRHa in other catostomid species is unknown.…”
