Related to ABI3/VP1-Like 1(RAVL1) regulates brassinosteroid-mediated activation ofAMT1;2in rice (Oryza sativa)

Abstract: The promotive effects of brassinosteroids (BRs) on plant growth and development have been widely investigated; however, it is not known whether BRs directly affect nutrient uptake. Here, we explored the possibility of a direct relationship between BRs and ammonium uptake via AMT1-type genes in rice (Oryza sativa). BR treatment increased the expression of AMT1;1 and AMT1;2, whereas in the mutant d61-1, which is defective in the BR-receptor gene BRI1, BR-dependent expression of these genes was suppressed. We the… Show more

“…13). This failure may be due to additional, non-redundant functions of BSK proteins and of BRs in the transcriptional regulation of N transporters 24,25 . However, significant correlations were found between BR sensitivity, as determined by root length inhibition or hypocotyl elongation, and the responsiveness of primary root or average lateral root length to mild N deficiency (Fig.…”

“…BRs regulate several physiological and developmental processes in plants. These plant steroid hormones have also been implicated in the transcriptional regulation of N uptake 24,25 . Regarding root growth, BRs modulate the elongation of differentiated cells 43 and the size of meristems 23,44,45 .…”

“…Indeed, the protein delta(24)-sterol reductase (Q39085), involved in the conversion of the early BR precursor 24-methylenecholesterol to campesterol, also showed increased abundance in ammonium nutrition ( Table 2 and Figure 2 ). Interestingly, BRs have been recently related to the regulation of the AMT1-type ammonium transport proteins in Arabidopsis and rice [ 53 , 54 ]. In rice, BRs induce the gene expression of OsAMT1;1 and OsAMT1;2 ammonium transporters [ 54 ].…”

“…Transcriptome studies in Arabidopsis and rice revealed that AMT genes are up‐regulated by brassinosteroids (BRs) (Yu et al ., ), and that activation of OsAMT1;2 involves Related to ABI3/VP1 (Abscisic Acid‐Insensitive 3/Viviparous 1)‐Like 1 (RAVL1) downstream of the BR‐receptor BRI1 (Brassinosteroid Insensitive 1) (Xuan et al ., ). In addition, the Indeterminate Domain 10 (IDD10) and DNA‐Binding With One Finger (DOF18) transcription factors induce AMT transporter expression in rice, and thus modulate ammonium uptake (Xuan et al ., ; Wu et al ., ).…”
