N‐alkoxyamine‐containing macromolecular intumescent flame‐retardant‐decorated ZrP nanosheet and their synergism in flame‐retarding polypropylene

Abstract: High‐efficiency macromolecular intumescent flame retardant (MIFR) is urgently demanded but of great challenge. In this work, a novel N‐alkoxyamine‐containing MIFR‐decorated zirconium phosphate (ZrP) nanosheet (denoted as RQMIFR‐ZrP) was synthesized and combined with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) to endowed polypropylene (PP) with excellent flame retardancy. With the addition of 6.3 wt% RQMIFR‐ZrP and 18.7 wt% APP, PP classed a UL‐94 V‐0 rating with a high LOI value of 39.5%. Moreover, the peak heat release rate… Show more

“…The P 2p peak centered at 133.5, 134.5, 135.0 and 135.5 eV are assigned to POP, PO, OPOC, and PO 3 , respectively. The results imply that the char layer of RPUFs4 undergoes oxidation, esterification, and crosslinking during the combustion 39 . The densification of the char layer is promoted by phosphorous groups, which is in compliance with the SEM results of the char layer.…”

“…The results imply that the char layer of RPUFs4 undergoes oxidation, esterification, and crosslinking during the combustion. 39 The densification of the char layer is promoted by phosphorous groups, which is in compliance with the SEM results of the char layer. The C 1s spectrum of XPS shows that multiple types of carbons are present in the residues, including C Zr (281.7 eV), C H and C C (284.8 eV) in aliphatic and aromatic groups, ether groups and hydroxyl groups C O (286.4 eV) in the carbonyl group and C O (288 eV) in the carbonyl group, where the content of C Zr is 0.15%.…”

“…PDMPP also showed good flame retardancy for PP 7,8 . In our previous work, we prepared a single‐component IFR RQMIFR‐ZrP by using N‐alkoxy hindered amine (T152), zirconium phosphate (ZrP) nanosheet, pentaerythritol caged phosphate (PEPA), and melamine 9–11 . However, the phosphorus content of RQMIFR‐ZrP is 9.9 wt%, and 25 wt% RQMIFR‐ZrP only increased the LOI value of PP to 23.5%.…”

“…In recent years, the discovery of two-dimensional nanomaterials has attracted the attention of researchers. They have a layered structure and are widely used for flame retardants, 11 heat conduction, 12 and semiconductors. 13 Common two-dimensional materials include graphene, 14 double hydroxide, 15 carbon nitride, and boron nitride (BN), 16 As a inorganic two-dimensional nanomaterials, BN is widely used in various fields due to its excellent physical and chemical properties.…”
