mir-126 rs4636297 and TGFβRI rs334348 functional gene variants are associated with susceptibility to endometriosis and its severity

Abstract: microRNAs (miRNAs) are negative regulators in a variety of cellular processes that occur in endometriosis. Therefore, functional polymorphisms in miRNA and miRNA binding sites may affect gene expression and contribute to susceptibility of endometriosis. In this study, we evaluated the association of two miRNA related polymorphisms, mir-126 rs4636297 and TGFβRI rs334348, with endometriosis risk and its severity. This case-control study was done on 157 endometriosis patients and 252 healthy women as a control gr… Show more

“…G allele of this SNP has been shown to protect against endometriosis. Moreover, significant association has also been detected between the A allele and severity of endometriosis (72). Zhang et al have shown association between the CT/CC genotypes of miR-146b rs1536309 and the risk of pain symptom of endometriosis.…”

“…We report significant associations of rs895819 and rs6505162 SNPs with higher rates of endometriosis, but no link with rs531564. The significance of miRNAs and their variants in different diseases have been indicated frequently ( 16 , 17 ), whereas several studies have specifically investigated the effects of miRNAs variants in female reproductive disorders, a few studies have been focused to determine the role of miRNAs variants in endometriosis ( 18 , 19 ).…”

“…Several studies have also confirmed the strong relationship of miRNA SNPs with increased risk of endometriosis incidence among women. A study of 157 endometriosis patients and 252 healthy women, mir-126 rs4636297 significantly differed between the two groups, the authors speculating a role in individual’s susceptibility to endometriosis and its severity [ 24 ]. Similarly, Farsimadan et al in a very recent study investigating the association of miR-146a, miR-149 rs2292832, miR-196a2, and miR-499 variants with the higher rates of endometriosis, suggested the importance of these SNPs with disease severity [ 25 ].…”
