“…In the literature, peer roles are often defined by the specific intervention being studied, such as modified directly observed therapy [17–20, 25, 32–34], social support [25, 35] or prevention for positives [9, 12, 14, 15, 33]. In this sample of peers working in eight states it appears that HIV positive peers conduct a wide range of activities in natural (non-study) settings that encompass the roles described above, as well as helping clients find HIV and social support services, coaching clients in communications with their providers, helping clients make choices about disclosure, and helping clients understand confidentiality and boundaries.…”
