In vivoexpression of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IFN-γ mRNAs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and effect of cyclosporin A in a patient with Kimura's disease

Abstract: Semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was used to analyse the expression of cytokine mRNAs in freshly isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells obtained from a patient with Kimura's disease. The patient was treated with cyclosporin A (CsA) after incomplete tumour resection and irradiation of lesions. Levels of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5 and IL-13 mRNA were elevated and the level of interferon (IFN)-gamma mRNA was within normal limits before treatment. The levels of IL-4, IL-5 and IL-… Show more

“…Recently, Katagiri et al measured the expression of cytokines in a patient with Kimura's disease with marked eosinophilia and elevated serum IgE levels. They noted that elevated mRNA levels of IL-5, elevated levels of IL-4 and IL-13, and normal level of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) (18).…”

“…15 Abundant expression of eosinophiliotrophic cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been reported recently in a patient with Kimura's disease. 16 This suggests that these cytokines may have a role in pathogenesis. High levels of circulating eosinophilic cationic protein and major basic protein and high tissue IgE concentrations also have been found in the active stage of Kimura's disease.…”

“…Abundant expressions of eosinophil tropic cytokines such as IL4, IL5, and IL13 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been reported suggesting that these cytokines have a role to play in its pathogenesis. 5 The primary treatment is surgical excision. Literature on optimal treatment of recurrent KD is limited to a few case reports.…”
