In Situ Transport Measurements and Band Gap Formation of Fluorinated Graphene

Abstract: Electrical transport properties were studied in situ of few layer graphene subjected to plasma-induced sequential fluorination processes. Lowtemperature transport properties and Raman spectroscopy were studied ex situ after each fluorination process. As the fluorination progresses, it was found that the initial metallic behavior of graphene (with low-temperature transport properties being governed by diffusion) changes to insulating behavior where transport properties obey variable range hopping (VRH). Emergen… Show more

“…The energies of all points corresponding to majority channel of midgap states are located at least 43 meV below the Fermi level. Comparing the band structure of A and ABA 1 shows that the band gap in single-sided FG with uncompensated sublattices increases slowly with fluorine density, and the band gap we obtain is of the same order of magnitude as experiment (80 meV) [18].…”

“…The small band gap of single-sided FG in Ref. [18] does not disagree with the optical transparency of single-sided fluorinated graphene saturated at %25 concentration, since these are probably two different concentrations and configurations.…”

“…Образцы имеют графеноподобную структуру как до, так и после удаления никеля, т. е. структура образцов сохраняется после травления, при этом температура отжига не оказывает сильного влия-ния на эти процессы. Данный факт позволяет проводить дополнительную обработку образцов, например функ-ционализацию [31,32] в различных атмосферах. Спектр состоит из четырех основных полос, ∼ 1300 (D пик), 1600 (G пик), 2700 (2D пик) и 2900 (D + G пик) cm −1 .…”

“…High quality fluorinated graphene offers a great potential for modulating various properties by controlling the microstructures such as layer, size and surface chemistry. In this chapter, we report the insitu monitoring of electrical properties of graphene during plasma induced fluorination followed by ex-situ property measurements [121].…”
