Frantisekia - a new polypore genus (Polyporales, Basidiomycota).

Abstract: The new genus Frantisekia Spirin et Zmitr. is described, and three species are included in it-Frantisekia fissiliformis (Pilát) Spirin et Zmitr. comb. nov. (type of the genus), Frantisekia mentschulensis (Pilát ex Pilát) Spirin comb. nov., and Frantisekia ussurii (Y. C. Dai et Niemelä) Spirin comb. nov. These species are described, and their identity, ecology and distribution are briefly discussed. Tyromyces aurantiacus (Komarova) Komarova is regarded to be a synonym of Frantisekia mentschulensis.

“…-The genus Frantisekia is characterized by a pseudodimitic hyphal structure, narrowly clavate basidia and oblong-ellipsoid to cylindrical basidiospores. Species thus far accommodated in the genus are: Frantisekia fissiliformis (Pilát) Spirin & Zmitr., F. mentschulensis and F. ussurii. Frantisekia fissiliformis resembles F. abieticola in its resupinate basidiocarps, brownish pore surface in older specimens and oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores, but differs in its small pores (8-10 per mm), simple septate pseudodimitic hyphae and presence of clusters of crystals in the trama (Spirin and Zmitrovich 2007).…”

“…Frantisekia is a genus erected recently by Spirin and Zmitrovich (2007) based on the morphological characteristics. The sequence analysis applied in this study provides molecular support for the establishment of the genus.…”

“…C. azorica, C. portcrosensis, C. consobrina, C. guidella, C. herbicola, and C. subsphaerospora) complicate the situation further. In addition, the genus Frantisekia, recently erected by Spirin & Zmitrovich (2007), is morphologically similar to some Ceriporiopsis species and its evolutionary relationship to Ceriporiopsis merits further study.…”

“…Miettinen et al. () revised the genus in Europe, after which Spirin and Zmitrovich () and Miettinen et al. () established a narrow concept of the genus excluding some European species, for instance A. americana Ryvarden & Gilb.…”
