Escherichia coli from clinical mastitis

Abstract: Abstract. In the current study, the virulence factors in Escherichia coli isolates from bovine mastitis were investigated, and the connection between these factors and infection was evaluated using phenotypic and genotypic analyses. Twenty-seven E. coli isolates were analyzed, and 2 were shown to produce verotoxin. All isolates had the ability to produce biofilms, although at different levels. One isolate was found to be sensitive to the bactericidal activity of bovine serum, 11 were intermediate, and 15 were … Show more

“…In the previous studies, researchers also stated variations in the presence rates for these genes [5,20,21,22]. Although, Momtaz et al (2012) and Kobori et al (2004) stated a higher presence rate, other researchers [18,23,24] could not detect the gene in E. coli strains. In the here presented study, stx gene presence was higher than in previous studies, as intimin was lower.…”

“…Researchers stated biofi lm production in E. coli strains in previous reports [18,27,28]. Friedman et al (2013) classifi ed the biofi lm production property of the strains as strong and medium, and found medium level production in one third of the 55 strains.…”

“…The least two phylogroups determined from acute bovine mastitis were found to be D and F. Most of the commensal and intestinal strains have been reported as group A and B1, extra-intestinal E. coli strains belonged to group B2 and D in other studies [6,7] . In the previous studies, bovine mastitis isolates have been generally belonged to A and B1 groups [8,9,[26][27][28] . However, phylogroup C was defined to be closely related to, but distinct from B1 [29,30] .…”
