Dialogue et l’épineuse question du bilinguisme

Abstract

RÉSUMÉEn guise d'introduction à la traduction anglaise d'un article de Jocelyn Maclure préalablement publié en français dans la revue, je présente ici quelques réflexions sur le bilinguisme de Dialogue dans le contexte philosophique actuel.

Projet Babel Fish : Introduction

“…La rédaction de Dialogue a déjà eu l'occasion de rappeler, dans ces pages, son attachement à la diversité en philosophie en termes de styles, de thèmes, de traditions et de langues. Depuis la publication, en septembre 2020, d'une note éditoriale intitulée « Permettre et encourager la circulation des idées : Dialogue face aux défis du bilinguisme » (voir Bandini, 2020 ; Maclure, 2020), une initiative internationale a été lancée par une poignée d'enseignant.es et chercheur.es en philosophie afin d'y promouvoir une plus grande inclusivité, notamment linguistique. “…The idea for this project germinated in 2020 when we were given the opportunity to print Jocelyn Maclure's “L'avenir contextualiste du constructivisme métaéthique : le constructivisme humien amendé” in both English and French. We introduced that issue with an editorial comment “Promoting the Circulation of Ideas: Dialogue and the Challenges of Bilingualism” (Bandini, 2020; Maclure, 2020) that explained why such linguistic transparency is vital if we are to be a platform for philosophical dialogue. Today, as awareness awakens to how structures of power serve either to magnify or muzzle the voices of individuals, there is a community call to promote linguistic inclusivity in philosophy.…”
