“…A novel extension of models is proposed here in order to capture the effect of emotions on the acceptance of new technologies. Both medical advances in transplant technology, such as organ transplants from animals, and the integration of technological devices have led to the perception that the body is modifiable (Christie and Bloustien, 2010 ), which, in turn, can generate apprehension and anxiety (Buchanan-Oliver and Cruz, 2011 ) and fear of dehumanization (Lai, 2012 ). With regard to young people's perceptions, Schaar and Ziefle ( 2011 ) analyzed, through qualitative methods, benefits, and fears regarding four implantable medical devices known to different degrees and entailing different levels of surgical risk for the patient: pacemakers, cochlear implants, medical chips, and deep brain stimulation (or “brain pacemakers”) for the treatment of Parkinson tremor and paralysis.…”
