Cloud Crawler: a declarative performance evaluation environment for infrastructure‐as‐a‐service clouds

Abstract: SUMMARYAs the number of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud offers in the market increases, selecting an appropriate configuration of cloud resources for a given application becomes a non-trivial task even for experienced developers. Because cloud resources are relatively cheap, usually charged by the hour, developers could systematically evaluate the performance of their application using different resource types from different cloud providers, thus allowing them to accurately identify the best providers… Show more

“…Another actively maintained tool that comes with a collection of pre-configured benchmarks is Google's PerfKit Benchmarker 14 , which comes with an optional dashboard for performance analysis (i.e., PerfKit Explorer). Previous academic work introduced [11] and extended [10] Expertus, a code generation-based shell scripting approach, and introduced [2] and extended [3] Cloud Crawler, a declarative approach defining a custom YAML-based DSL.…”

“…To empirically assess different CDOs, architects can rely on automated cloud benchmarking tools, such as Cloud Workbench and Cloud Crawler . Indeed, as to what we explained in Section 4.2, in our work, we have used Cloud Crawler, which was originally developed in our research group, to automate deployment and performance testing of different CDOs for Wordpress in the Amazon cloud.…”
