Ceratonia siliqua extractas a green corrosion inhibitor for copper and brass in nitric acid solutions

Abstract: The influence of extract of ceratonia siliqua extract on the corrosion of copper and brass in aqueous 1 M nitric acid was examined by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical frequency modulation techniques. The surface morphology was analyzed using scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization curves indicated that the plant extract behaves as cathodic inhibitor. The results indicate that the extra… Show more

“…Straight lines were obtained by plotting Langmuir adsorption isotherm at various temperatures (with slopes almost equal to unity), as shown in Figure (8). around (-20 kJ mol -1 ) (physical adsorption) whilst those around (-40 kJ mol -1 ) (chemisorption) [43,44]. For the situation of this review, the 0 ads G  values were confined between 20.2 kJ mol -1 and 27.5 kJ mol -1 , this may show that both physical and chemical adsorption occurred [45].…”

“…This property enable extracts of Carob being corrosion inhibitors. 136 One of the new polyphenolic that were isolated for the first time from Carob is ceratoside, that its structure is shown in Figure 3. 108 Hydrolysis (degradation) of condensed tannins which are polyphenols attached by glycosyl bonds to sugars can be done in several reactions.…”
